Overview
My client is seeking a confident and experienced Customs Agent with a strong background in completing Import and Export SADs and Transit Declarations for road freight operations.
The role in a nutshell:
As an in-house Customs Agent, you will be responsible for preparing and submitting Import and Export SADs, Transit Declarations, and associated port authority references (including PBN and GMR) to support internal planning teams and external customs-only clients.
You will play a key role in ensuring all customs documentation is accurate, compliant, and completed within required timeframes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Completion of Import and Export SADs for EU/UK and IRL/UK movements (in both directions)
- Preparation and management of Transit Declarations, including proper discharge procedures
- Creation of required port authority references (PBN, GMR, etc.)
- Prompt and professional handling of customs-only service requests from clients
- Critically assessing documentation provided by customers (e.g. invoices, CMRs) to extract all relevant information required for customs declarations
- Maintaining internal tracking spreadsheets for invoicing and reporting purposes
- Ensuring all daily work is completed accurately and on time
Working Hours:
- Monday – Friday
- 42.5 hours per week
- 08:30 – 18:00 (Monday – Thursday, Friday in 4)
- Potential requirement for one Saturday per month
- Flexibility is essential to ensure all daily customs requirements are met
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in Customs Clearance for road freight (Ireland or UK)
- Experience completing Import and Export declarations for EU/UK and IRL/UK movements
- Strong understanding of Transit Declarations and discharge procedures
- Ability to confidently interpret commercial documents (invoices, CMRs, etc.)
- Knowledge of TRACES, IPAFFS and CHEDP processes would be advantageous
- Experience with Thyme-IT would be beneficial but is not essential
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under time-sensitive conditions
